Growing up and surviving domestic violence, affected my sister and I deeply. Living in different countries years later, the trauma we share, although mostly unspoken, manifests in many forms - our art, our work and the way we care for our family and communities. Her initial illustration of a girl hugging her legs and the words that went along with it deeply touched me. I felt compelled to create a ceramic sculpture from it, carrying a lamp on her back that would strive to illuminate, despite the weight she carried within her body. Expressions like these help us to meditate with the pain, and hopefully release the attachments piece by piece.
