Nothing Couldn’t Stop My Voice by Popy Chowdhury

It was my dreaming age,

I was only 15

My stepmom forced me to marry

and the man was 35,

Every night I was raped in different ways

I thought, maybe this is the life!

Once I realized, this isn't life,

I cried to my father, for my rescue

He said in an annoyed voice,

"You have to compromise

And you have to live with him until your death."

But I didn't

l left the man and left my past

Nobody was beside me

Nobody was with me

I started walking on my path alone

I didn't have a roof on my top,

No food, no friend and not a single penny.

There were many conspiracies against me

It was my family and my community.

But nothing could stop my voice

I became vocal against domestic violence

I started spreading my voice

One day I was alone

Today, thousands of voices around the world

They are vocal against domestic violence

They are vocal against the oppression of women.

Title: Nothing Couldn’t Stop My Voice

Medium: Poem

This is a poem based on the true story of my life. I lost my mother when I was only nine months old. I had no siblings, I was alone in this world. I was always brutally abused by my step mother, but I could not tell anyone for fear. At that point, I started writing about my misery on the back pages of the school notebook. And this is how my writing started, and now I am a author of almost thirty books.
